To register for any of our classes, click on the name of the class to
complete the registration form.  We accept payment through Paypal, cash
or checks, or pay with a credit card over the phone or in person.  
**Classes and workshops require advanced registration.
   

Clay Works 1  

Join us to create beautiful air-dry clay pieces. Students will explore different sculpting
techniques such as coil and pinch pot. Students will complete one of each in this fun and
creative class. Return to Clay Works 2 to learn finishing techniques.  
One session.

Students return to learn painting techniques to finish their
coil and pinch pots and learn the slab technique.

Double Dip  

Jump into one or both weeks of this extraordinary,
creatively stimulating art experience. Young artists will sharpen their skills guided by our
professional staff in a positive environment where each artist sets individualized artistic
goals.  Small class size, so sign up soon!  Quality art materials are provided.

Open Studio

Provides opportunities for participants to form creative partnerships and mentoring
relationships while exercising their creativity.  Define and pursue personal goals with artistic
and personal expression as vehicles.  These accomplishments often
positively impact seemingly unrelated areas of our lives like personal
well-being, career direction, education and spirituality.

Hopes, Fears, and Experiences of Being a Teen
Summer Group Art Program

NEW summer program being offered at The Art Experience.  We will use art as a way to
communicate with each other, build relationships, uncover the strength we have within, and
have fun!   The goal of this program is to assist pre-adolescent and adolescent children
through developmental stage and social issues by
creating an identity within a safe environment,
teach coping and social skills, while also encouraging
students to set personal and academic goals.

Ages 12-16; taught by Jamilya Williams, WSU Art Therapy Intern.

Van Gogh Workshop


Spend an evening learning about the triumphs and trials of Vincent as
revealed in his letters to his brother Theo.
Participate in an art-making experience working on a template of his art;
a fun and educational class lead by

Van Gogh and Matisse: Learn the Techniques of the Masters

Study the art and history of Van Gogh and Matisse.  Students will complete two paintings
based on the technique and style of each artist. Students may bring their own materials or
use the studio's.  $5 per session fee to use the studio’s, canvas’s available at cost.

Workshop: Do You Want to Paint in Oil?

Explore the materials and techniques needed to work in oil paint.  This discussion will help
beginners discover if oil painting is right for them, and if so, what supplies to buy and where.  
Includes demonstration; will prepare students for 6 week oil painting class.

Water-based Oil Painting Class

Explore the materials and techniques of oil painting using water-based oils.  This is a great
chance for beginners or experienced artists to learn without using the harsh solvents of
traditional oil painting.  Students provide their own materials.  A discussion of materials will
be held at the studio on June 29th which is required for
beginning students to review materials needed.

Art Journaling

An art form that everyone with basic hand skills can do: cut, paste, hold a paint brush, pen,
or pencil.  Its fun, it's easy and sometimes surprising how well the spontaneous activities
tap into your inner wisdom.  Art Journaling is great for those who want to let go of doing
everything perfectly; an opportunity to let your inner child play and give yourself some
regular time to be creative.  Learn techniques for preparing pages, using masks, shadows, &
doors that open and close, adding extensions to a page, incising, stamping, embellishing,
etc.
Registration required by June 13th.  Class is limited to 8 students.   Take a beginning
class, then join us in Open Studio time for on-going sharing.  
Taught by Sue Nimlin, retired occupational therapist and lifelong artist.

MUNNY-Workshop: The Greatest DIY Toy Ever!

Martha Stewart does them, so does Rosie O'Donnell, and now you can too!  What is a Munny
you ask?  A 4" vinyl toy that you paint, embellish or otherwise give it an identity.  Learn how
to do this in our workshop.  Lift Designer Toys in Royal Oak is coming in to show us the ropes
of painting DIY toys, the latest craze in the toy industry.  Join us!
