“Art sounds like an unnecessary luxury. Funding for it is commonly cut by states to meet a
budget. But in so many of The Art Experience’s students’ cases, it is just that, an experience.
One that creates growth, hope, and the ability to learn, not just art, but how to keep moving
forward in a world full of obstacles that hold the developmentally and physically disabled
back.” Janet Darrington, support coordinator of Alex Olbrys, TAE participant.
Katie Serewicz, Creative Director and
one of the founders of The Art Experience,
art therapist and art teacher, died on March 15th,
2011 after surviving a ruptured cerebral aneurysm
in December of 2009. She was supported by her
husband, good friends and family in her struggle to
recover and ultimately passed away peacefully in
hospice, with her spouse/partner Patrick O'Connor
and good friends at her side.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made

Do you want your child to learn REAL art techniques and not just "arts and crafts" while having a
blast? That's what my kids have gained through The Art Experience. I simply can't recommend
The Art Experience ENOUGH! My son started there at age 10 and is now 14. He has produced
INCREDIBLE paintings, clay sculptures, batiks, and sketches. The teachers are knowledgeable,
patient, helpful without interfering, kind and fun! The Art Experience is a MUST! ~ Sonja
Martinez, participant and mother of TAE students.
